Since you stumbled upon my 'about' page; let me tell you a little bit about myself.
My name is Esther van den Berg and I'm a dutch illustrator and author with a great love for books, nature, reading and ceramics. I live in Amersfoort, together with my partner Balder, our two daughters and our black cat Kaatje.
I studied illustration and printmaking at Artez School of Arts, where I graduated a long time ago, in 2004.
Since then I've made illustrations for books, magazines, scholastic publications, cards, city plans, games, animations, infographics and educational materials.

In recent years I'v been focusing mainly on my work as a picturebook maker.
My books have been translated and published all around the world, thanks to my wonderful publisher Clavis.
I find inspiration in my own childhood, my experience as a parent and seeing my daughters grow up.
For the characters and settings of my books I'm mostly inspired by nature and animals.
With each book I try to create a new world with characters that children can relate and connect to.
This, to me, is the most magical part of being a picturebook maker!
Two years ago I took up a ceramics class and haven't been able to stop exploring this wonderful craft. It's like illustration to me, but then in 3D! It's a wonderful addition to my digital art and life as a maker.
